About
Physician-Parent Caregivers, Inc. (PPC) believes that all children, young adults, and their families are entitled to Quality Health Care. Physicians who are parents of Young People with Chronic Conditions & Disabilities work with children, young adults, families, and physicians to find solutions for the delivery of optimal health care.
Young People with Chronic Conditions & Disabilities is the most vulnerable population affected by poor Quality Health Care. As children, they completely depend on their parents to obtain health care services for them; as young adults, they find they have no choice but to turn to their parents to navigate a complex, broken health care system.
Contrary to popular belief, having health insurance does not guarantee that a patient will receive good medical care. Poor care, particularly for Young People with Chronic Conditions & Disabilities, and the struggle to find good care can have devastating effects on the whole family. The emotional, physical and financial strain of trying to find good care for a sick child can lead to divorce, bankruptcy, health problems and the neglect of other children. Families lose years of their lives while searching for high Quality Health Care. For Young People with Chronic Conditions & Disabilities, it amounts to losing their childhood.
As a grassroots voluntary Board-run organization, we strive to represent the views of families and physicians in the community. While a framework has been established to advance the agenda for Children with Chronic Conditions & Disabilities, we as a nation have just begun to take action. Much work remains to be done and a sense of urgency is needed. PPC’s goal is to find solutions that will make Quality Health Care the norm for Young People with Chronic Conditions & Disabilities.
